Summary: Neighborhoods and Small Towns

The majority of the projected 120,000 new residents will live in communities within the Urban and Suburban Neighborhoods. Forsyth County has a great opportunity to shape future growth in a way that will positively affect the quality of life for everyone - including families, children and the elderly.

To create the future we want means we have to change some of the ways we are currently developing. Existing structures and infrastructure should be preserved and enhanced. Mixed-use communities need to be built in place of suburban sprawl to preserve land resources and avert traffic congestion. Gentle density should be applied wherever feasible in urban and suburban areas. Neighborhoods that embrace a variety housing choices and well-designed nonresidential uses as an important and vital part of their community should be the new paradigm for future development and redevelopment.
