Discuss: Center City Streetscape Improvements

The streets of the Center City are generally attractive with sidewalks and street trees. However, opportunities for these amenities exist in certain areas where they are currently missing.

Where and how do we provide future streetscape improvements?

Should we continue to convert one-way streets back to accepting two-way traffic?

George Stilphen's Keep Winston Salem Beautiful department ( I serve on his board ) could work in tandem with your organization. Each fall we fascilitate Roots Day where we plant 3-400 trees in a public area needing beautified. This year's site has already been selected but maybe we could partner with you to plant trees in downtown in future years.

Also, we have Big Sweep and Great American Clean Up events where we remove trash and liter from streets, parks and creeks each year. I approached the Downtown Partnership about adopting a park and was denied - go figure. KWSB could utilize help from downtown businesses and residents to help keep this part of WS beautiful.

It is necessary to conver the one ways for the purpose of uniformity. It is confusing to someone from out of town when some streets are one way and some are not. It causes trafifc hazard.

Bury more power lines downtown... keep expanding outward. Holly Ave. Neighborhood should be buried.

If ever possible the more cobblestone the better!

Liberty and Main Streets need help. These two streets are probably the most unattractive streets downtown. Sidewalks need improvement on the eastern end of downtown. North/East parts of downtown are being developed and lacking "curb appeal."

A nice park downtown would be good, I think. There are a few green spots, but nothing very close to Fourth St. A park would be good for residents, people who work downtown, and visitors.

4th Street Park!!!!

And stop that plan to bring it all to grade... that is expensive and only creates a few parking places... keep it gently sloped and pull that area of 3rd St. into downtown (v. cutting it off forever)

Winston Salem has a rich history across the board.
Having a Museum Down Town is a must that will preserve our history and benefit the area.

Bury the power lines!!! The lines that run from the Broad Street substation, across the traffic circle by Old Salem create not only an unsightly scar, but an economic dead zone sitting between three of Winston-Salem's gems, Old Salem, School of the Arts, and the historic Washington Park Neighborhood. BURY THOSE LINES!
