Green Building (LEED)

Green building is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource efficient throughout a building’s life cycle. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a green building certification program intended to provide builders and owners a framework for identifying and implementing green building site selection, design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and deconstruction. LEED construction can be applied to homes, schools, business, health care structures as well as the retrofitting of existing structures. LEED buildings often provide healthier living and work environments, providing yet another overall benefit. Green building practices have increased in popularity over the years and are starting to become more recognized in the Piedmont.
