Breathing a bit easier

Substantial progress has been made in moving toward the 2015 Vision for the environment. Several text amendments to the UDO have been adopted since 2001. The new tree ordinance adopted by the City of Winston-Salem in 2009 requires a tree save area or additional tree plantings for new development. The ordinance prohibits the act of “tree topping” which limits the survival of the tree canopy and negatively impacts the visual aesthetic of the city.
